The Simple Joys: Finding Magic in the Mundane
We cannot believe June is coming to an end and it's got us thinking about how quickly life moves. The you have to find magic in the mundane. We got to thinking about simple things we do that makes us smile and we'd like to share them with you.
Making for Joy
Not everything we create needs a reason. Sometimes, the joy is simply in the making. Luckily we make for a living, but it doesn't always turn out the way we hoped. There is a lot of work that does not see the light of day! Now that we're lucky enough to have this as our job it's important to make at other times without the pressure - time to play! Sewing, painting, baking....There’s no pressure to be perfect, no need to produce something “useful.” The act of making is the reward.
Gardening
There’s a calm that comes from the garden. I love to listen to a podcast and get stuck in. Sure, a lot of the time I have no idea what I'm doing, but seeing those first blooms of the summer from something of grown is pure joy! Pottering in the garden is absolutely one of my favourite things to do.
Sea dips
There’s something so soothing about stepping into the sea. We live in one of the most beautiful places - Cornwall. We may be biased here, but we think Hayle has some of the most beautiful beaches. Nature has a way of shaking off the cobwebs of daily life and replacing them with a clam that really does soothe the soul.
Sewing
Sewing, like jewellery-making, for us is magic. Making something beautiful from a piece of fabric always amazes. It’s the slow, intentional act of building something beautiful. Whether upcycling an item we already own or creating something entirely new, sewing is up there with the best of simple joys.
Getting Outside
Sometimes the simplest joy is just getting outside. Whether it’s five minutes with your face turned toward the sun or a weekend exploring the coastline, being outside reminds us that joy doesn’t always need a plan. It just needs space.
