Fit, Forty & Feeling It.... Love Tara x

If you’d told me in my 20s that I’d be bouncing out of bed at 4:30am to do CrossFit in my 40s, I’d have laughed. Loudly. I’m a mum. I run a business. I juggle the chaos of school runs, packed lunches, orders, and trying to remember when it’s non-uniform day. Tired is basically a permanent state of being.

And yet, here I am. In my forty’s and fitter than I’ve ever been, and (yes!) weirdly enjoying it.

I’ve been doing CrossFit for a few years now and honestly, I love it. It’s tough, it’s sweaty, and it’s mine. That hour in the morning before the rest of the house wakes up is sacred. No one’s shouting “Muuuum!” or asking where their shoes are. It’s just me, the barbell, and some seriously loud music. The workouts change daily, and I never know exactly what I’m walking into—but I do know I’ll walk (or crawl) out feeling stronger, prouder, and ready to face whatever the day throws at me. So thank you @heylcrossfit.

When I turned 40, I set myself a challenge: run 40 miles a month, every month I’m 40. I wasn’t a natural runner (I used to joke that I only run if I’m being chased). But something shifted. At first, it was just about ticking the miles off. But slowly, its become more than that. I started noticing the progress—breathing easier, running further, actually looking forward to it. And now, halfway through the year, I’ve hit every monthly goal. No excuses.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy. There are days I’d rather roll back under the duvet. Days when my legs feel like lead, the kids are fighting, and the house is a mess. Oh, and let’s not forget the joys of perimenopause—hello night sweats, mood swings, and that delightful feeling of being completely drained for no reason. But still, I get up and go.

Why? Because this isn’t about weight or dress sizes. It’s about energy. Strength. Sanity. It’s about showing my kids what commitment looks like. I want them to grow up seeing fitness not as a punishment or a chore, but as something joyful and powerful. Something that keeps you grounded when life is full of noise. This is a lesson firmly learnt from @beachfitmillycornwwall she is an absolute inspiration to us all and her business is about building a strong community of like minded people to become stronger, healthier and enjoy the outdoors.

My mum is still doing yoga in her 70s and probably more flexible than me. My dad, despite illness and pain, never gives up. He has some serious determination and never lets anything stop him. I see it in myself now. And I hope one day, my children see it too.

At our gym, there’s a sign that says: “You can have results or excuses” That hits hard. Because it’s true—not just in fitness, but in life, business, and motherhood. There will always be reasons not to do the hard thing. But the reward? It’s in doing it anyway.

So yes, I’m more tired. Definitely more wrinkly. But also, more alive than I’ve ever felt.

Here’s to showing up. For yourself. For your family. For the life you want to build.
